Maybe Dave McClure Should Just Use UberCab

There is a very excited startup out there called Baydin that is about to close it's first angel round of financing. One of the investors, at least, is Dave McClure's 500 Startups. How did they get McClure to invest? By giving him a ride from a meeting to his mechanic.
Then, my girlfriend noticed Dave?s tweet that said he was looking for a ride to his mechanic. Anyone who picked him up could pitch him on the way. Figuring dignity is for the unfunded, I threw on yesterday?s clothes, hopped on 101, and headed over to Buck?s to give Dave McClure a lift.

Overeem video before and during his K-1 appearance

Alistair Overeem was back at it again this weekend. The Strikeforce heavyweight champ isn't fighting MMA in the U.S. for the remainder of 2010 because of his participation in K-1's Final 16. This lead-in video seems way to good to be relegated to the internet. There's pretty funny stuff including Overeem finally getting manhandled. He gets worked over by an older masseuse.

You can see the results of his hard work below. Ben Edwards takes the best Overeem can dish out but can't stand any longer after a dozen-plus sledgehammer overhand rights and three knockdowns. HDNet announcer Michael Schiavello makes Gus Johnson sound less than enthusiastic.

K-1 Final Results:
Sergey Kharitonov def. Takumi Sato by KO (Round 1, 2:50)
Dzevad Poturak def. Chalid Arrab by TKO (Corner stoppage, Round 2, 0:06)
Tyrone Spong def. Ray Sefo by Decision (Unanimous decision, 3-0)
Gokhan Saki def. Freddy Kemayo by KO (Round 1, 2:14)
Daniel Ghita def. Errol Zimmerman by KO (Round 2, 0:18)
Kyotaro def. Jerome Le Banner by forfeit
Peter Aerts def. Ewerton Texiera by Decision (Ext. Round, 3-0)
Mighty Mo def. Raul Catinas by Decision (Unanimous decision, 3-0)
Semmy Schilt def. Hesdy Gerges by Decision (Unanimous decision, 2-1)
Alistair Overeem def. Ben Edwards by TKO (Round 1, 2:08)

Sony's Google TVs on sale at Best Buy tomorrow, already hitting stores?

Sony told us that Best Buy wouldn't begin selling its Google TV sets until October 24, but it looks like that wasn't quite right -- sources within the big box retailer tell us the TVs have already arrived, and will be free for all to purchase when an October 17th street date breaks tomorrow morning. The scrap of paper you see above goes on to suggest that full shipments may not actually arrive until the 19th and that the Logitech Revue won't appear until the 20th, but if you're looking to get a nice big NSX without hunting for a Sony Style store, it's definitely worth a shot. That assumes, of course, that you're not planning to wait for our full review. Might we recommend at least a brief glimpse at our early hands-on? Find a pic of Sony's Google TV packaging after the break.

Mary J. Blige Dishes On Her 'Crazy' Led Zeppelin Covers

'I've listened to their music since I was a child,' says the R&B diva, who recorded 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love.'
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Larry Carroll

You wouldn't peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin.

In early February, reports began circulating that Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin's classic "Stairway to Heaven," working with Travis Barker, "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her Stronger With Each Tear album, due Monday.

But after she had recorded "Stairway," Blige continued to get the Led out, covering another Zeppelin classic — the thunderous "Whole Lotta Love" — for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the Essence Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you'd probably imagine.

"I did Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love' — it's crazy," she said. "I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I'm not going to say I've been to their concerts, but I've listened to their music since I was a child, and it's always moved me, especially 'Stairway to Heaven,' and 'Whole Lotta Love' is just fun."

Blige also said she recorded another new song — a "club record" called "I Can't Wait" — for the re-release. And while it's only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon.

"I want y'all to hear it," she laughed.

Jimmie Johnson Touches Lives With Foundation Grants

EL CAJON, Calif. (AP) -- Jimmie Johnson likes to give back to his hometown, then come back to see how the money is spent.

On Tuesday, that meant pulling into a school yard in a replica of his No. 48 Chevrolet, thrilling several hundred students at Emerald STEM Magnet Middle School in this blue-collar community on the eastern edge of San Diego's suburban sprawl.

A few minutes later, Johnson and his wife, Chandra, were in the automation and robotics lab watching 13-year-old J.T. Duboise demonstrate a computer-controlled model car.

Duboise told Johnson he thought about adding a horn, then decided against it.

"Who wants a horn?" Johnson replied, reassuring the eighth grader that his car was just fine.

Ford's future baby model rendered

Remember the Ford Start Concept unveiled earlier this year at the Beijing International Auto Show? Well, Ford has announced that this concept previewed a new baby model that will compete with models like the Fiat 500. The new model will go on sale in 2014 and will be priced at 8,000 ($12,500 at the current exchange rates).

The future baby model will be powered by a new 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine with direct injection and stop-start technology. This new engine will deliver between 80 HP and 125 HP, and a fuel economy of 60 mph and CO2 emission of less than 100g/km. This new engine will also be used for models like the Fiesta, Focus, and C-MAX ranges.

In order to be able to target the Fiat 500, this little number will have to come with plenty of customizable options. Ford has done their part by providing the small car with a new MyFord system, air-conditioning and sat-nav system, and more personalization options than ever before. The options will include everything from vinyl wraps to color-coded interior lighting which should allow it to give the Fiat a run for its money.

Ford's future baby model rendered originally appeared on topspeed.com on Friday, 15 October 2010 10:30 EST.

Netflix on PS3 goes disc-free, gets 1080p streaming and 5.1 surround sound (update)

Rejoice, PS3 owners, your Netflix streaming experience just got vastly better than anything else on the market. Starting October 18 Netflix on the PS3 will no longer require a disc, and it'll stream some content with 1080i 1080p resolution and / or 5.1-channel surround audio, while everyone else will be stuck with a max of 720p stereo for the time being. Oh, and you'll get subtitles on some content as well. Netflix is partnering with Dolby on the audio side, and the surround format will be Dolby Digital Plus, which is the same codec used by the VUDU HDX streaming service -- we're guessing it'll require a tiny bit more bandwidth but the results should sound pretty great. Netflix says 5.1 will come to other platforms "over time," so we'll see how long that takes -- and given that the PS3 is now disc-free and the company's eschewed the SRS surround features baked into its Silverlight-based platform, we're guessing Microsoft's exclusivity period has now completely run its course. Video and PR after the break.

Update: Though the official PlayStation Blog originally reported the service would display streaming video at 1080i resolution, they've since struck that out -- they say it'll do 1080p now. Much better.

STRIKEFORCE NEWS: Dave Bautista seeking three fight contract with Strikeforce, says "I'm either going to win big or lose big"

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

BatistaArt_130GG_copy_31.jpg
Despite a delay in the proceedings, Dave Bautista is still hoping to make an entrance into the sport of mixed martial arts, and more specifically into Strikeforce. But, before he does so, he's hoping to secure a multi-fight deal with the organization.

"I think I can be something really positive for the MMA world," Bautista said in comments made to MMAJunkie.com. "My thing is I want to do a multi-fight deal. I want to have a guarantee of at least three fights. I want a tune-up fight, I want a big fight, and I want a pay-per-view fight."

Bautista has been training with Cesar Gracie's camp in California in preparation for a move to the sport, but his age and lack of fighting background outside of professional wrestling remains a concern.

"I've always been honest with myself," Bautista said. "I'm not getting any younger, so three fights is all I can commit to. I don't know how I'm going to feel after those three fights. If I'm 42 and I've had three fights, my window of opportunity is not very large."

"I've got all the tools. I'm 41 years old now, but I can go and train for one or two hours nonstop, and I don't have a problem. The reason I was successful in wrestling is because I stayed in shape nonstop. I have the durability. I just have to put it all together and get the skill.

"I think I'll be an exciting fighter. I'm either going to win big or lose big."

Link to Original Source Article

Penick's Analysis: Bautista's got a big hill to climb to accomplish what he'd like to in the sport. Age is not on his side, and with only a short time of actually training in MMA there's no telling if he can or will be effective in the sport. As for this multi-fight deal, Strikeforce needs to make sure it makes financial sense for them. Signing Bautista to a big money deal is not a smart move. There's no guarantees that he'll bring in numbers to Showtime, CBS or pay-per-view at this point. He's been off of WWE television for quite some time now, and by the time he makes his debut it will have been even longer. They can't overpay for him, but if they can use him to garner some slight interest they probably will.
